Illustration

This portion of my portfolio include pieces created for both personal and professional projects. Most of these projects were finalized in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

Bad Things Bimble - Children’s Book

The following illustrations are for a children’s book project I have been working on with the talented self published children’s book author Catherine Coates. The book itself attempts to cover the complex personification of childhood trauma and the emotion turmoil it can create in children. Through both the text and illustrations the book tries to help children identify and develop tools in processing and combatting these difficult and nuanced situations.

In deal with such a unique topic the color choice is deliberately loud and vibrant to show the veracity of the emotions and to counter the dark contrast of the “Bad Thing”. The book is also hand lettered to make the text some across as is a personalized recount or diary entry from “the child” to the reader. This is done with the goal of making the book both more relatable and temper some of the difficult messaging with a childlike presentation.

Dune - Fan Poster

This Dune poster was a fan design created using Adobe Illustrator and then edited in photoshop. It is meant to be a more minimalist design with the opposing color palette exaggerated through the negative space of the silhouette. Per the story, the illustration communicated the desert planet in the shadow of the main character and the lush green utopia they aspire to bring to the world. The blocky text was created to give both drama and play upon the sci-fi/fantasy background of the story.

Cutie Pie

The Cutie Pie illustration was created as a personal project in Adobe Photoshop. This design is meant to be a bit more light heated and funny play on words. The colors are indicative of personal style, which is often bright and colorful, showcased in a majority of the illustrated pieces.
